Digital Nomad Guide to Phuket 2026

Phuket has quietly overtaken Chiang Mai and Bali as Southeast Asia's most practical remote-work base. The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), a wave of new coworking spaces, and reliable 500 Mbps home fibre have turned the island into a serious long-stay destination — not just a two-week beach holiday.

The DTV visa in one paragraph

The Destination Thailand Visa launched in mid-2024 and is now the default for remote workers. It grants 180 days per entry, is valid for 5 years, and only requires proof of ฿500,000 in savings plus a remote employment contract or freelance portfolio. Application is online through a Thai embassy and typically approved within 2–3 weeks.

Where nomads actually live

  • Rawai / Nai Harn (south): The current nomad capital. Quiet, walkable, coffee shops everywhere, a 10-minute scoot to three beaches. Expect ฿18,000–28,000/month for a modern one-bed condo.
  • Bang Tao / Cherng Talay (west): Upscale, gym-focused, Laguna area. Great for families and long-stayers with a bigger budget (฿30,000–55,000).
  • Phuket Town: Cheapest, most authentic, best food scene. Sunday walking street is the weekly highlight. From ฿12,000/month.
  • Kata / Karon: Surf-friendly, tourist-heavy — better for 1–2 month stays than a full year.

Coworking spaces worth joining

  • HOMA Phuket Town & Cherng Talay — coliving + coworking, dedicated desks from ฿6,500/month.
  • Garage Society Phuket — closest thing to a Hong Kong-style pro space.
  • KoHub-style cafés: Bookhemian and Campus Coffee (Town), Café del Mar (Kata) all tolerate laptop days.

Internet, health & the boring stuff

AIS Fibre is standard: 500/500 Mbps costs about ฿700/month and installs in 3 days. Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Bangkok Hospital Siriroj are international-standard; a comprehensive expat insurance plan runs $80–150/month for a healthy 30-something.

Community

The Phuket Digital Nomads Facebook group (25k+ members) is the go-to for meetups, coworking days and weekend trips. Rawai has a Tuesday-night nomad dinner that has been running for years.
