The Perfect 7-Day Family Itinerary in Phuket
Phuket is one of the easiest tropical destinations to travel with kids: short flights inside Asia, English-friendly, world-class hotels with kids' clubs, and enough variety to keep every age happy. This is the exact 7-day plan we build most often for families with children aged 4–14.
Where to base yourself
Stay somewhere central-west with a calm beach: Kata Noi, Karon or Bang Tao. Avoid Patong with young kids — the beach is fine but the surrounding streets are not family-friendly. Resorts we book repeatedly for families: Katathani (Kata Noi), Angsana Laguna (Bang Tao), Marriott Merlin Beach (private cove).
Day 1 — Arrive & unwind
Airport transfer, hotel check-in, easy dinner at the resort. Pool time only — jet-lagged kids will thank you.
Day 2 — Beach day + Splash Jungle waterpark (half day)
Morning at your resort beach, afternoon at Splash Jungle Water Park near the airport. Slides for every age, big lazy river, ฿1,395 adult / ฿695 child.
Day 3 — Ethical elephant morning + Old Phuket Town evening
Phuket Elephant Sanctuary (Paklok) is a true no-riding, no-bathing sanctuary — you observe, feed and walk with rescued elephants. Book 6+ weeks ahead. Evening: pastel Sino-Portuguese streets of Old Town, dinner at Torry's Ice Cream and Kopitiam by Wilai.
Day 4 — Phi Phi Islands by big boat
Skip speedboats with under-8s — the pounding is rough. Take a large catamaran or ferry-style tour (Phi Phi Cruiser, Andaman Wave Master). Includes Maya Bay viewpoint, Monkey Beach, snorkelling at Bamboo Island, buffet lunch.
Day 5 — Rest day + kids' club
A full down day. Let the resort's kids' club take the little ones for a few hours while parents get a spa. Sunset at Promthep Cape with mango sticky rice.
Day 6 — James Bond Island + Panyee lunch
Big boat again from Ao Po pier. Sea canoes into the hidden lagoons of Phang Nga Bay are the highlight for kids 6+. Onboard lunch cruising past Koh Panyee.
Day 7 — Beach morning & departure
One last swim, hotel breakfast, transfer to the airport.
Family logistics that matter
- Car seats: Almost no Phuket taxi has one. Bring an inflatable BubbleBum for kids 4+.
- Sun: Reef-safe SPF 50, rash vests, and no midday beach between 11–2 with under-5s.
- Food safety: Stick to busy restaurants; the food is genuinely excellent and kids love pad see ew, chicken satay and khao pad.
- Medical: Bangkok Hospital Phuket has a paediatric ER, English-speaking.
