When private beats shared
Private tours look expensive until you divide by heads. A private Phang Nga Bay boat at around 18,000 THB works out at 3,000 THB each for six people — close to the shared price, with your own schedule and no waiting for 20 strangers. From four adults up, ask us to price both.
Seven ways to pay less without cutting the good parts
- Book directly with a licensed local operator instead of a hotel desk (desks add 15–25%)
- Combine tours — multi-tour bookings usually save 5–10%
- Travel in early November or late April for high-season weather at shoulder prices
- Use shared transfers for airport runs, private cars for tour days
- Eat one meal a day at a local market
- Skip the Similan add-on if you are not a keen snorkeller
- Ask for the all-in price in writing, fees included, before you pay
Is Phuket expensive in 2026?
Compared with 2019, expect 15–25% higher hotel rates and 10–20% higher tour prices, driven by fuel and staffing. Compared with Bali or the Maldives, mid-range Phuket remains cheaper for the same standard of hotel, and food is far cheaper than either.
